Rules

  1. This tournament is a fundraiser for the West Carroll Basketball Program, and it should be competitively fun for the players and fans. Poor sportsmanship will not be tolerated.  It is expected that the players and fans be good sports at the 3 on 3 tournament.

  2. Captains from each team will play rock, paper, scissors for ball.

  3. The person checking it does not have to pass it in, but they can not shoot without dribbling first (they are technically out of bounds until they come in).  The defense has to give them two feet of space to begin the possession.

  4. Take the ball back behind the 3-point line every change of possession with ONE foot (steal, defensive rebound, even on airballs).

  5. Jump balls will be alternative possessions.

  6. Baskets will be worth one point each, with three-point shots worth two points.

  7. All games will be played to 15 points.

  8. Teams must win by 2 points unless the time has expired or the first team that reaches the point cap of 20 points.

  9. If the score is tied as time expires, there will be another rock, paper, scissors between the two captains to determine who has the ball first in “sudden death”.  The first team to score in sudden death wins the game.

  10. All games will have a 20-minute time limit.  There will be an announcement of time when there are 5 minutes remaining, 1 minute remaining, and a countdown of the final 10 seconds.  The clock will not stop except if a timeout is called.

  11. There will be a court monitor for each court that will officiate and keep score of the younger division games. There will be a court monitor for the adult divisions and high school divisions that will keep score. They are not the official as the adults/high school will call their own game. If the court monitors need to step in and make a call they will.

  12. -The offensive player will call fouls and there will be no arguments. Spectators and parents will not call the fouls. NO FREE THROWS
-Violations (traveling, double dribble, out of bounds, charging) will be called by the defensive team.
-The court monitor will have the final say in any decisions. If both teams can’t manage their game fairly, the court monitor has the authority to officiate the entire game or when needed.

  13. Substitute on dead balls.

  14. Each team will be granted one 30-second time out to use during the game, in which the clock will stop for 30 seconds.  If the game goes to sudden death and a team has already used a timeout they do not get another one.  If they haven’t used their timeout, they still have it for sudden death.

  15. Double elimination format.

  16. We will supply game ball. Please bring a basketball to warm up with.

  17. Remember the most important rule is the first one.
